Support Groups & Community Programs
Our events offer the community ways to get involved, receive support, and just have some family fun. Whether you're attending a tour, meeting, or annual event, we welcome you to the NICST family!
Note: Due to COVID-19, tours are postponed until further notice.
Tour Thursdays: Come see us in action! Say hello to the NICST team, meet our dogs, and maybe sneak in some snuggles. Walk-ins welcome, 10AM-2PM every Thursday.
*Due to COVID-19, tours are postponed until further notice.
The following support groups are free and open to our diabetic community. As we grow other programs, NICST will also provide quality programming and support groups for our other clients.
TypeYOU Support Group: Find support in community. Discuss the unique challenges you face in your day-to-day life and receive help from other insulin-dependent diabetics. We welcome you as a unique individual in our community space. Open to all. Type You meets the first and third Tuesday of every month at 6:30pm. Meeting link: Type-You.org
TypeTEEN: We are excited about our support group, TypeTEEN – a safe space for youth ages 10-18 to discuss what matters to them with their peers. TypeTEEN is hosted by D4D client/dog team Samantha Gomez and Megumi, who have been thriving in our community since 2016. TypeTEEN meets the first Monday of every month at 6:30pm. Join via our meeting link: Type-TEEN.org
Pumps & Sensors: Frustrated with the technology for your diabetes management? Get your questions answered and learn about options in this monthly group led by Dogs4Diabetics Co-Founder, Jeannie Hickey, who is also a RN, and CDE. Pumps and Sensors meets the second Wednesday of every month at 6:30pm. Open to all. Email ghjeannie@aol.com for meeting link.
First Thursdays: This monthly meeting supports all of our clients, those who have been placed with a dog and those waiting to be placed. Over a friendly potluck, clients socialize and receive support about dog training or diabetes management.
Volunteer Orientation Training: Attend one of our fun and interactive orientations to learn everything you need to know to start volunteering in our training room the same week!
