Fitzsimmons is a large goofy lab that loves to play and interact with his people. Best thing is after a play session he'll curl up at your feet for a long nap.
Training Status Update: 10/13/21
Fitzsimmons will be graduating as our next quality control animal. NICST prides ourselves in being the leader in industry standards. In short this means we are one of the few organizations that has quality control measures in place that allow us to prove our dogs know the hypoglycemic scent before they are placed with a client. Our quality control starts each morning when our trainers proof out the donated scent we get from our clients. Our Quality Control Animals smell the samples, and need to agree with 80% accuracy that a sample is viable before we can use it in training. Proofing scent ensures our training dogs are actually being imprinted and trained on the hypoglycemic scent. Fitzsimmons is the best of the best at scenting and being selected for this job is akin to being selected as a breeder for GDB. Only the most driven and accurate dogs can do this job. Fitzsimmons has gone through hundreds of extra trials and we have compared his results with our existing proof animals and he is fantastic at his job! As one of our Quality Control Animals he will be leading the way for our next generation of service dogs as well as be an ambassador dog for our organization.
Training Status Update: 9/13/21
We have slowed down Fitzsimmons training to assess where he will best fit as a service dog. One of the great things about our program is that we have the ability to speed up or slow down based on what each dog needs. Every dog we receive is a gift and we understand the time, love and resources that brought them to our program. Being able to take our time with Fitzsimmons allows us to honor the work that went into raising such a wonderful dog and give him the best shot at fulfilling a life of service.
