Detection Dogs

NICST has long known the power of the canine nose! We work in collaboration with other organizations and institutes to study how dogs can aid humans in detection. For example, NICST and UC Davis are conducting a study to determine if dogs can detect head and neck cancer. Head and neck cancer can be very hard to diagnose, and if animals were able to screen for this disease, they could be instrumental in early diagnosis and treatment.
